Hotel Thalmair

We booked a hotel room and were moved to one of their brand new apartments instead. It was spotless, which mattered most to me, and had plenty of daylight and lots of space for two. The apartment is in a quiet part of the city, about a five-minute walk from the subway, with a direct ride into the centre. Breakfast could have a little more variety, in my opinion, though I do appreciate that they avoid waste. The place was definitely worth every cent.

The parking garage had four EV chargers, which was a great surprise. Breakfast was fine and certainly adequate, though nothing revolutionary. The hotel is quiet, and there's a short walk through an alley to the U6 Metro. It took about 15 minutes to reach central Munich. I'd definitely stay again.

The parking is convenient, the breakfast was good, and the breakfast waitress was friendly. But the room had no air conditioning or fan, and I wouldn't recommend staying there in summer. If you open the window, the curtain can't close, so how are you meant to sleep? The window also didn't feel safe for kids, as a child could fall out. And the bed was uncomfortable, made by putting two single beds together as a queen.

The next day I put the clearly marked “Do Not Disturb” sign on the door, but they came in anyway. Completely unacceptable. This was one of the worst stays I've had. They have renovated and unrenovated rooms, but charge the same for both. If you get one that hasn't been renovated, expect Arctic cold. The heating is supposedly automatic, so you can't set it how you want. The bathroom felt like something from an old camping caravan. Breakfast was tiny, about enough to fit on a chess table. Forget hot food, pastries, toast, or a normal breakfast. There was jam, some yogurt, and maybe some fruit, though ten pieces of fruit seemed to be stretched into 25 servings. If you don't want your trip ruined, avoid this hotel.
