We didn’t enjoy the stay at all. Our first room was supposed to be non-smoking but reeked of cigarette smoke. When we told the front desk and asked to move, the staff looked annoyed and weren’t apologetic. We did get another room, but it was dusty, and after sleeping in the bed our bodies itched all over. The bathroom was cramped too. If someone was sitting on the toilet, another person couldn’t get to the shower or sink because there was so little space between the toilet and the door.

The staff seemed as though English, or even ordinary conversation, was new to them, and my questions didn’t get much of a response. Breakfast was a sad-looking table, the eggs left me wondering what they were, and the coffee tasted like it had trust issues. The room was grim: the carpet looked like it had lost three world wars, the mattress felt stuffed with old regrets, the pillows were like damp bread, and even the lamp seemed ashamed to turn on. In the bathroom, the shower swung between Arctic Death and Boil Your Soul. The tiles seemed to stay on the walls out of habit, and the towels were so thin that paper might have dried my hands better. Even the lobby smelled awful, like an abandoned bus station. My stay was a masterclass in disappointment. If I could give zero stars, I’d borrow some just to throw at the manager. If you love yourself even a little, stay somewhere else. Sleep in your car, in a tree, or on an airport bathroom floor, just don’t come here.

The location is only somewhat convenient, with shops and restaurants a bit of a walk away. For about €150 for two nights, I expected much more. The hotel felt poorly maintained: the hallways, elevator, and room all needed more attention, the towels smelled as if they’d been stored too long, and the shampoo and shower gel dried out my skin. My bed wasn’t comfortable either, with tiny pillows and a mattress that was too soft. There’s no air conditioning, and my damaged window wouldn’t shut properly, so street noise and cold air came in all night. Breakfast was disappointing. It ends at 10:00 a.m. on weekends, which is early if you want to sleep in. When I arrived at 8:15 on Saturday, there was already no bacon or fresh juice. The eggs were pasty, the fruit salad watery, and I’d rate it about 2 out of 10. The next morning, after skipping breakfast, I asked the receptionist for an espresso from the machine about half an hour after breakfast ended. I was told I’d have to pay, and did, but it felt disrespectful to a guest. The reception staff were unfriendly and sometimes rude, as if serving a paying customer were a favor. Management should give them more training in being polite and welcoming.

The reception staff were kind, helpful, and efficient, and there are plenty of restaurants nearby that stay open late. The station is right next door, though it takes about 20 minutes by U-Bahn to reach the center. For one or two nights, the price makes it a reasonable option compared with other Munich hotels. The room we had was in rough shape. It looked dated, with paint worn off in places and doors in similar condition. The air conditioner looked like it had been there since the 80s. I can’t say whether all the rooms are like that, but this one badly needs renovation. It’s fine if you just need somewhere convenient to sleep and shower.

The sauna really was hot, 90 degrees C, which was nice, and breakfast was somewhere in the middle, neither great nor terrible. The rooms are okay for a budget hotel, and the air conditioning works. It was clean, though there was a lot of mold in the shower. I also didn’t like staff knocking before checkout time. I don’t want to feel rushed out of my room.
