The Lovelace

The food was great, though a little cold, and the room had a lovely atmosphere with a live pianist. I was able to reserve a table for brunch. This was my second visit and I came away pleased again. It’s a very cool spot, and I’m always excited to go to their events.

There are separate areas here, so you can choose whether to sit and chill or go dance. There are two terrace areas, and the music changes with the DJs or live acts. Some days it’s pretty quiet, which is nice if you don’t like crowds. It’s a cool pop-up hotel with lots of different things going on on the lower floors.

They call it a hotel happening, and that feels more accurate than calling it a hotel. There’s more style than substance. The healthy, vegan breakfast is served at the table, but nobody was brought a menu, and there’s no milk for your coffee. In the room, the lights operated remotely but didn’t work, the shower didn’t look or feel clean, and its drain was clogged. The heating was off even though it was below zero outside.

The place itself looks amazing, with lovely decor and great style. I can’t speak to the hotel stay, only to the venue when it was rented for a party, and that was a disaster. The cloakroom team was clearly understaffed and had a lot to handle. People kept shouting and complaining, and I felt sorry for the staff. The rules were ridiculous. They closed the main floor because too many people were in front of the main DJ, even though there was enough room by the stage. I told them very nicely that they could let more people in, but they responded rudely and unfriendly. Maybe staying at Lovelace as a hotel guest is better, which is why I’m giving it more than two stars.
