Landhotel Niederthaeler Hof

The local food is lovely and clearly made with care. The one thing I didn't like was having to buy mineral water because they don't serve regular tap water. That really shouldn't be necessary, especially somewhere with such good water.

The hotel sits in a beautiful part of the Nahe vineyard area, and the breakfast was comprehensive and very good. The fresh scrambled eggs were especially welcome, and the staff were helpful and friendly. Our stay was a mixed one, though. This part is about rooms 102 and 103, which you may want to avoid: their windows face the forest, but the train track runs right at window level, out of sight. A train woke me at 04.20, and they pass fairly regularly. Colleagues in other parts of the hotel said they weren't affected as much. Our bedroom was clean and spacious, while the bathroom was clean but tiny. The bed was huge, with two very soft, unsupportive mattresses. I may be too generous with four stars, but others in our group had a better experience.

We stopped for lunch during a motorbike trip in the Hunsruck. It's a great spot, with really delicious food at reasonable prices. We'd make it a waypoint next time we're in the area, whether for lunch, dinner, or even a few days off.

The atmosphere, food, and drinks are fantastic. It's a really good dinner spot for locals, and cyclists from elsewhere can stay overnight. The staff are friendly, as always.
