Best Western Wein-Und Parkhotel Nierstein

The hotel itself is pleasant and clean, the staff are friendly, and there's free parking 50 meters away. Still, I spent so much of my stay dealing with the reception that I can't give it five stars, even though the problems may not have been their fault. They couldn't find my booking.com reservation at first, but a very helpful receptionist eventually located it after they mixed up my first names. The next morning they couldn't issue an invoice and said booking.com was responsible. I requested one through booking.com, and five days later still had no response. Next time I should book directly with the hotel.

The place is lovely and well located, and having tea and coffee in the room was nice. But there was only one sachet of regular coffee, and the front desk said they had no more. I expect that was true, so some of the service problems seem to come down to how things are set up. The staff were abrupt, though not rude, and I expected a friendlier welcome. Also, the cold ventilation isn't air conditioning. Our west-facing room stayed over 20 degrees well into the night. The stay was okay, and with a bit more thought for the guest experience and warmer service, it could have been wonderful.

I won't stay here again. When I left in the morning, I noticed I'd either been bitten or was reacting to dust mites. I contacted the hotel and they apologized that I had an allergy to something, saying they'd fix the room. The room was dark, with very few light switches, and smelled musty. At first it seemed fine, but I couldn't see how dusty it was until I opened the curtains in the morning. The chair and pillow were very dusty, the stool at the end of the bed had a stained cover and a musty smell, and there was an extraordinary amount of dust along the baseboard, in corners, behind the bed, and around the balcony door frame. Very disappointing. And they won't let me post pictures, hmm!

Anna was a gem in the restaurant. She was delightful, professional, and great at her job, and went out of her way to help us. Telmo was friendly and professional too, and helped us with our barbecue dinner. On arrival, Georgia welcomed me, handled check-in, shared information, and pointed out lots of places of interest. We had a wonderful stay. Highly recommend. Don Layton
