CasaSmart // Das Ferienhaus am Harz Nordhausen

We’ve stayed here more than once and have always felt welcome. The service is so friendly and considerate, and the place is clean, cozy, quiet, and has everything we need. We’d give it more than five stars if we could. Thanks so much! 😊

The terrace has seating, a Weber charcoal grill, and a fire pit, and the fenced outdoor space gives our dog room to wander around. Casa Smart has plenty of space for our family of four. The kitchen has all the utensils you need, though who wants to spend a vacation cooking all day? Parking and Wi-Fi are free, and supermarkets are only a short drive away if you’re self-catering. Check-in is easy and contactless with a key safe. We’ve enjoyed staying here several times.

The fenced garden is a nice feature, but small dogs could get underneath it, and there were no cushions for the outdoor furniture. The house itself is pleasant and in Nordhausen, but we stayed five days and found a lot missing. Cleanliness was just okay, and the furnishings were very basic. The kitchen is tiny, with too few dishes and cooking utensils for anyone planning to cook for themselves. There are no curtains or blinds, so you feel exposed despite the fence and the fact that neighbors don’t walk right past the windows. The house also gets unbearably hot because there’s no way to block the sun. Opening the windows wasn’t pleasant with all the flies and mosquitoes around, so insect screens would help. For guests concerned about cleanliness and traveling with a dog, the only cleaning tools were a hand broom and a vacuum that barely worked, making daily dog-hair removal difficult. The shower head should be replaced too. It smells at first, and flushing it wastes water. In short, this felt like a poorly managed vacation rental.

Very cozy and spotlessly clean, with everything well equipped. We stayed at CasaSmart for five days, and the cottage was just right for two. We’ll definitely book it again as a base for hiking in the Harz Mountains.
