Homestay Nürnberg

The central train station is close enough to walk, and we were grateful to find this reasonably priced place after our accommodation cancelled at the last minute. We had a fairly priced room for three with soft beds. The toilet, shower room, and kitchen were shared with the other guests, perhaps across six rooms, which worked for us but may not suit everyone. It was very hot, with no air conditioning. Our flight was delayed, so we arrived around 1am. I’d emailed when we learned about the delay but got no reply. The hostess seemed very unhappy with us, and we weren’t sure we’d be allowed to stay that night. I’m not sure we would have been, if my sister hadn’t spoken fluent German. The hostess seemed much happier talking with her than with me in English.

The place was quite clean and well priced, but the host didn’t treat guests fairly. When something goes wrong, they blame you and say it was fine before your arrival. Their English isn’t good, and they won’t let you explain. If you don’t pay, they’ll make you leave and won’t return the money you’ve already paid. I had just arrived two days earlier when I was charged €197 to repair a blocked water pipe. Other guests had stayed at the homestay, and the repair bill was written in German.

The staff were very nice and waited for us when we checked in late. The beds were comfy, the shared bathroom was large, and the kitchen had everything we needed.

The service was amazing, and I loved both the room and the breakfast.
