Alte Postvilla

The location was good, with restaurants and a supermarket close by, but the apartment itself was a letdown. We booked a four-bedroom unit and found it was actually two two-bedroom apartments joined together. The photos on booking.com looked nothing like the place we got. The design felt dated, and the TVs seemed to be from the early 2000s. There was no internet, and we couldn't even watch regular TV. The whole place felt like a college dorm, not a hotel or an airbnb. When I opened a window, a huge number of flies or bugs came into the apartment.

The kitchen had everything needed, the bathroom was okay, and supermarkets were very close. But for what we paid for just 5 nights, I wouldn’t return. The apartment we were given had little in common with the photos on booking.com and elsewhere. The furniture was very old, and the floor made a lot of awkward noises. Several windows had no curtains or shutters, and some curtain holders were broken and patched with tape. There was no privacy at all. Lights in the corridor and outside were triggered by sensors, which was annoying because light came straight in through the windows. I wouldn’t recommend it for small children.

Breakfast was provided only on the first day. For the rest of the week, they said we should eat in our room and left us a packet of milk and juice, 3 yoghurts, some slices of cheese, and a bottle of water for the whole week. Really?

After a stressful search for somewhere new to stay when our Airbnb reservation fell through on arrival in Oberammergau, my family, friends, and I found this lovely apartment-style hotel. Alte Postvilla was a wonderful host for us. Sebastian welcomed us warmly and helped with all parts of the trip, making the rest of our stay stress-free. He carried our luggage and even went out of his way to find a baby bed for our son. The rooms were clean and felt like a home away from home, with the chance to cook breakfast and do laundry whenever we wanted. I’m genuinely excited to come back and stay here again.
