Hotel Krone

The owner has an old-school manner and was very kind and accommodating. He greeted me personally each time and wished me a good appetite. The room was great, the food was good, and the spa had lots of thoughtful touches. I drove home happy and satisfied after a wonderful stay.

We went for the Valentine's Day menu on February 14th, and the evening was disappointing from start to finish. We arrived around 6:30 pm and were offered sparkling wine, but then waited over 30 minutes to order any more drinks. The main course didn't arrive until 8:45 pm, after a two-hour wait. My vegetarian main was just the side dish from the regular main course and wasn't particularly special. The dishes came without explanation, even though the order differed from the menu: the sweet mango sorbet arrived after the soup. A brief explanation would have helped. The room felt rather cold, and the radio was playing, which seemed unusual for a restaurant in this price range. There was also a fire alarm that couldn't be turned off until the fire department arrived. We left after almost three hours without having dessert. We weren't expecting or asking for a discount, but we were charged too much for a glass of wine, 11 EUR.

The free parking was a nice plus, and it was pleasantly quiet, with no noise from the next room. The cake was homemade and very good, breakfast was good too, and the food overall was very good, though expensive. We were there at Christmas, but the atmosphere didn't feel very festive. There was Italian music, a small poinsettia on the table and a few stars on the window, but no Christmas tree in the room. The tables were so far apart that conversation was difficult. The hotel has only been open six months and is mostly wood, which could feel cozy, but the minimalist style came across as austere, almost like a monastery. The sauna is included in the price, but has only three loungers and no separate room. The staff were friendly, but by the second evening they were practically nowhere to be found, and the same music was playing again. Guests at the next table ordered dessert, waited a long time, then left without it. Service and atmosphere still need improvement.

We were a family group of 18 with a dog, and since we originally come from Oettingen, we already knew the Krone from years ago. The renovation turned out beautifully. I especially liked the extension and its lovely rooms, mostly done in wood. For the first time on our travels, our dog was treated like a guest too: there was a bed, treats and poop bags. We had a room that can also be booked for "everyone, without a dog," not a back room or basement room. Dinner, service and breakfast were all excellent. We were completely satisfied and will definitely come back.
