Gästehaus Eckenfels

Breakfast was freshly made and nicely laid out, with plenty to choose from. We felt welcome in the carefully furnished, well-kept guesthouse, and our room was modern, clean, and tidy. We'd definitely recommend Gästehaus Eckenfels.

I liked having a pleasant balcony, and the room was cozy and clean. It was fairly quiet, so I slept well. Good value for the money, and a favorite for next time.

The eggs at breakfast were excellent, though I stuck to a roll with jam because the cheese seemed a little questionable. The beds were comfortable, and the bathroom was alright, but I didn't want to inspect the beds too closely after looking around the room. It seemed okay at first, then less so. Coffee came with hard sugar. We came with our dog for a nearby family celebration and wanted somewhere affordable. Given the price and positive reviews, I expected an older, basic place, but still hoped it would be clean, orderly, and looked after. Booking and check-in were modern and all online, which was great. The outside felt unwelcoming, with ashtrays full of cigarette ends, beer mats and empty bottles on the tables, and stale bread left on a bench. Indoors, the hallway floor was dirty, especially in corners and other hard-to-reach spots, with cobwebs around and crates of empty glass bottles. The plastered walls need repainting. Upstairs, a little table was covered with odds and ends: half-used shower gel, a broken kettle, glasses, cutlery, books, and keys to all the doors. Dirty laundry was on the floor. The hostess came across as annoyed and stressed, and not very concerned about whether guests were comfortable. We found the place untidy, uninviting, and not clean, so the glowing reviews and repeated claims about cleanliness are hard to understand. We wouldn't return, though we do wish the owners continued success.

The stairs are very steep, but parking in the courtyard or on the street is free. I found the place cozy and roomy, and couldn't hear the other guests. The shutters helped me sleep well. Our clean room, with shower and toilet, had enough space for three. Breakfast is available in the morning for an extra charge, and drinks are available the rest of the time. Excellent value.
