Penthouse Backpackers

The host is super friendly and happy to answer questions about the area. The hostel is ideally placed between the station and city center. The rooms aren’t especially nice since everyone has the same key to get in, and the showers could offer more privacy.

Cathy was so helpful, from accommodating our bikes during booking to understanding when we arrived a bit late and when my son was unwell during our stay. The basic ensuite family room for three was very clean and just right for a quick stop on our way home after a long cycle tour. It’s also very handy for the station. Thank you.

I’ve been here several times and will be back. It’s the only hostel in Osnabruck, and it has a relaxed feel that makes you want to play guitar for hours. The silver-haired receptionist is really cool and laid back, and very compliant with the corona restrictions. I’ve made some nice friends here. There’s a big bunny in the chill area, a guitar, a terrace for smoking and a usable kitchen. The rooms are nice and clean, while the toilets are just okay.

The hostel’s well-equipped kitchen, dorms and private rooms, rooftop terrace, and free breakfast with coffee and tea make it a good alternative to a hotel if you want to stay more like a local. It’s suitable for backpackers too. Bedsheets cost 3 euros, though there’s a free meal every morning. Keep in mind there’s no elevator to the fourth floor, and the WiFi can be patchy. Osnabrück is a lovely town for a two- or three-day visit.
