Romantik Hotel Walhalla

The room was spacious, number 105, and the location was fantastic. Breakfast was great and the restaurant was good, though not excellent. There’s parking with a Tesla charger.

The rooms have a quaint feel, the service was excellent, and the restaurant served delicious food.

Breakfast here was very good value, especially since hotels often charge too much for it. The bacon, or speck, was fried just right, and the fresh fruit and meat were really good too. I didn’t get to try the other options, but I’m pretty confident they’re just as good. Keep it up!

The starters were excellent: carpaccio turnip with serrano ham and parmesan, and a parmesan mousse with a parmesan chip, fresh parmesan, fresh pea mousse, olive tapenade and grilled prawns. One was a delicate mix of flavors and textures, the other an interesting rollercoaster of tastes. Both were beautifully presented, and the bread with herb and garlic butter was nice. The grilled salmon with risotto was excellent too. The pikeperch, however, was rather dry, perhaps because it had been frozen and not thawed well, and the vegetables were too salty and umami, with too much soy sauce. I mentioned this to the waitress, who said she’d tell the chef. The desserts came quickly as well. The cream coffee was excellent, but although the crème brûlée with a chestnut macaron and consmon ice cream looked lovely, the caramel was cold, which wasn’t to my liking. It seemed the brûlée may have been prepared well ahead to save a few seconds with the chef’s torch. We celebrated our fifth wedding anniversary at Walhalla. The restaurant has an authentic historic German Fachwerk facade and a stylishly modern interior. The reception was cordial and professional, the waitresses dressed stylishly, and we felt welcome. We were offered several aperitifs and chose a nice cocktail with ice, frozen raspberries, blackberries and blueberries. But the starters arrived before we’d finished our drinks, and we had to ask about the wine we’d ordered. The main course followed within minutes of the starters. Though the restaurant was only half full, it felt like we were being hurried through for a second seating, even without any apparent reason. The waitresses were clearing unused tables as we finished. The bill was 138 euros. It could have felt worth it if we’d been less rushed and the pikeperch and vegetables had been better. Instead, the evening felt a bit like a tourist trap pushing as many tables as possible through at top prices. The place has a lot of potential, but misses the mark by inches.
