Semliner Hof

We booked three rooms for five people for August 2 to 4, but when we arrived, only two rooms were offered. The rooms were in the lowest category, yet the charge was a steep €160 for two people in one double room for two nights. The staff that weekend were unfriendly, with no smiles, greetings, warm welcome, or wish for a pleasant stay. At those prices, the breakfast and its atmosphere felt embarrassing. I can’t recommend this place. It’s just Semlin, with the nearest district town 5 km away. There are plenty of beautiful villages around this large lake, so how do you justify those prices? Why were you so bold about the third room? Why didn’t you simply apologize?

The staff were very friendly, and the beds and towels were clean. The room felt a bit dated, the TV selection was limited, and the Wi-Fi was very weak. I had a minor complaint, unfortunately, but the price was reasonable and I’d still gladly stay again.

The area itself is really beautiful, which makes this a shame. The beds sagged so badly that we went home with back pain, and the cleaning seemed superficial. Breakfast was meager, and we didn’t feel particularly welcome, as if our coming down to eat was a bother. There was none of the friendliness or warmth we’ve experienced at other hotels.

€80 for one night, and the pictures speak for themselves. It’s unbelievable what they’re getting away with here. That’s absolutely outrageous, and it’s a shame for the region when it feels like everyone is just trying to rip off tourists.
