Haus Godewind

The small balcony gets sun all day and is really nice, though one of its chairs is broken and unusable. Both bedrooms face the main road, so in summer you can’t sleep with the windows open. The furnishings and cleanliness could be better, and the basic amenities are simple but complete. Wi-Fi is unreliable in some rooms because the router is on the floor under the furniture.

The bathroom had mold in the fridge and marks in the toilet left by the previous guest, which was unpleasant. Proper cleaning only seems to happen after someone complains. The furniture is very low and unsuitable for older people, and there are a lot of stairs that would have been good to mention. The windows aren't insulated, and since the building is right by the main road, the noise ends your night by 6 a.m. at the latest. One visit was enough for me.

The attic heat was a real problem. The south-facing kitchen and living room have no blinds, so even with pleasant temperatures outside, they became almost unbearable, and the sun scorched bread and other things. We had to keep all the windows open and vacuum up birch blossoms and other bits scattered around the apartment, but the tiny vacuum cleaner made that a tedious job. The extendable kitchen table may be a challenge for the cleaners too. The apartment was a good size, the kitchen had enough equipment, and the beach wasn't far. But the Wi-Fi, which is pretty standard these days, was completely missing. The closets, including the one in the small room, were unusable because they were full of bedding and other junk. The bathroom towel rack was rusty and loose. The attic apartment had its good points, but these issues got in the way.

We stayed for two weeks in a holiday apartment at Haus Godewind. It was comfortable and matched the pictures, so we didn't have any unpleasant surprises. The beach and the Rasender Roland stop are both about a 10-minute walk away. There’s also a place to store bicycles at the house if you’d rather not walk, and the laundry room makes longer stays easy.
