Rotel Inn

The breakfast was great. The hotel has modern, pleasant decor, but the rooms are only average in size and don't ventilate very well.

The bathrooms were clean, breakfast was a standard buffet, and you can leave bags in a holding room. There is also a secure cage for bikes. The rooms are small, as described, but fine for a night. With limited choices in Passau, we picked this place, which does feel more like a hostel, as other guests have said. My only complaint is the noise late at night: there's no sign telling guests to keep quiet or to use the large dining area when they're talking.

I booked at the last minute without seeing the place first, so arriving was a surprise. The design is very out there and cheerful, a bit too cheerful for me, though I'm a grumpy guy. It feels more like a youth hostel than a hotel. The rooms are tiny, with barely space for a bed, and the shared bathroom is across the hall. At least it was very clean when I was the first one in.

The room was comfortable enough, safe, quiet, and, most importantly, very clean and orderly, though it won't suit guests looking for a luxurious interior. The hotel is an interesting mix of art and practicality, with a youthful design, bold contrasting paint, and fascinating graffiti in the entrance hall. It has guest parking and is within walking distance of the train station. I was lucky to get a room with a window facing the Danube Riverside.
