The staff were gracious and understanding, even though I was clearly disappointed, and I appreciated how candid they were. The location is lovely and they’re making a real effort, though there are still things to improve. I wouldn’t really call it a wellness place: the facilities only open an hour before checkout, so there’s no chance to use them in the morning or have a sauna.

Bad Bergzabern is worth a visit, and you can walk there in about 25 minutes. The village itself is charming, with wineries and vineyards all around, while the nearby Palatinate Forest is largely a nature reserve and lovely to explore on foot. At the hotel, we had a generous room and a really good four-course dinner, plus a rich breakfast buffet. The wellness area has several saunas, a jacuzzi, fitness facilities, massage rooms and places to relax. Service was friendly and accommodating.

In August, this was one of the few restaurants open in the area, though it didn’t open until after 17:00. The food was good for the price, and the staff were really friendly and helpful. It’s a quaint, leafy setting, and they speak good English too.
