The location is very quiet and surrounded by greenery, with good cycling routes nearby. I believe they rent bikes. But you'll need a car: apart from one mediocre restaurant, shops, supermarkets, beaches, and tourist attractions aren't within walking distance. Bergen has several restaurants about a 10-minute drive away. The hotel is beautiful from outside, and our large, clean ground-floor room had fancy furniture, a strong shower, and good bathroom ventilation. Still, people in the parking area could look straight into the room. The TV and reception were poor, there was no free water or kettle, and the bed was average. We didn't like the big square pillows. Breakfast was good, though there wasn't much variety, and I missed hot chocolate and pancakes or waffles. The breakfast staff seemed stressed and weren't friendly. We met three people at reception: the blonde woman was rude, while the other two were fine.

The pool was pleasant, and the location is beautiful with a nice view. The rooms feel a little dated, especially the bathroom and shower, which need renovation. Staff seemed somewhat stressed and disorganized, and breakfast was mediocre.

We enjoyed our stay in this lovely old castle, in great condition and set among quiet woods with hiking trails. Breakfast and the service were good, with a bit of everything, including scrambled eggs. Our top-floor room had a sitting area downstairs and the bedroom upstairs, so carrying things we needed up was a little challenging, but manageable. Wi-Fi worked fine. Check-in and check-out communication was difficult because the gentleman didn't speak English. Restaurants in Bergen are about a 10-minute drive away. If you're in the area, I'd happily stay here again.

The castle is one of a kind, and the rooms are amazing. Staff are very friendly. Some service staff were efficient and professional, while a few seemed shy and not completely confident in their duties.

We stayed for a weekend in March, during the off season, and the old castle is gorgeous. Our rooms were spacious and had everything we needed, and there was plenty of parking. The included breakfast was wonderful, and staff were very nice. The main problem was the hot water. We called to confirm the reservation, but nobody mentioned the issue beforehand by email or phone. They only told us when we arrived that hot water was available in the swimming pool showers, and said we could check out early if we wanted. They didn't offer a discount, free sauna or pool access, or any other compensation, and honestly didn't even apologize. We also didn't sleep comfortably on the typical German double bed with two separate mattresses and duvets. The mattress was very springy, which may suit some people, but it's worth knowing.
