The waffle dessert is the highlight, and everything else we ate was really tasty too. It’s such a pleasant place to linger with friends, with lovely decor and a relaxed feel. Try to get a terrace spot for your apéro.

We loved relaxing in the garden beneath the trees, and the river is about a 20-minute walk away, where people swim and gather at a riverside café and bar. Bistro Bagatelle is a lovely find in the Saarland countryside, just minutes from the French border and the Moselle area. Two sisters run it with their family, and there are a few rooms at affordable prices. The welcome was warm, the hosts accommodating, and the service excellent. Breakfast was delicious and generous, and the restaurant serves superb food. One sister has worked in Michelin-starred restaurants.
