Hotel Freye

We only stayed one night, but slept very well and really enjoyed the excellent breakfast. There was a huge selection of fresh food, and the service was quick and pleasant. Booking directly through the hotel website was easy, and everything was ready when we arrived. It's an excellent hotel in a lovely small town near the Dutch border. You can also have breakfast there without staying overnight.

Breakfast was generous and tasty, and the corona rules were followed well. Our room was spacious, with a modern bathroom and comfortable beds. The hotel is very central, close to the station, the Ems river and some nice restaurants. Room 20 on the second floor has its own balcony, which is nice, though all those stairs could be difficult if you're not very mobile. There was no hot water in our room, so we had cold showers, but in the current temperatures that wasn't a big problem.

Everything was neat and clean, and the staff were very courteous. The hotel is cozy and convenient, less than half a kilometre on foot from the main Rheine train station. If you're arriving late, tell the staff in advance because the front office closes at 7 pm; they'll explain how to get in. There are shops and the market all around, and sightseeing spots are within walking distance. Breakfast was okay.

The staff were kind, and breakfast was delicious and consistent. The rooms and bathroom were tidy. One downside: on the top floor the shower never really got hot, even after the water had been running for 5-10 minutes.
