Alte Mühle

A lovely place to stay while I was in town for a seminar. The hotel team were exceptional, especially Lisa, who went out of her way to make sure I was comfortable. She even arranged my 5 am taxi pickup and made sure I had my lunchbox. My thanks first to Lisa, then to the whole team at Alte Muehle.

The restaurant has potential, but the way it’s run could use some rethinking. There’s a small menu and the food is okay, though bare dining tables with no cloth or even paper place mats give it a low-end feel. We waited more than 45 minutes for our starters because there was a function in the adjoining room. The hotel itself is neat and clean, with rather small rooms and an old-fashioned seventies charm.

For our 40th wedding anniversary, we celebrated at the Restaurant with friends. They had dressed the table for the occasion and brought us a little appetizer before dinner. The atmosphere was lovely, the dessert was great, and the food was excellent. We ordered the Deer back strap ( Rehrücken ), which my husband, an avid hunter, said was the best he’d ever had. Nice job, quality food!

The rooms stay warm in winter, and the area is quiet with no road noise. Staff speak English well, far beyond just basic work conversations. The restaurant is excellent and makes up for anything else that may be lacking.
