After a lot of back and forth, the booking was finally canceled free of charge, but I still haven't received my money back. I'd never book with them again. The landlady was incredibly rude on the phone and even shouted at me. I don't understand how people can behave that way. I had booked and paid via PayPal for five nights. The landlady called to ask when we'd arrive, and when I said early, she told me to call on arrival and someone would come even earlier. Then we were told the apartment was only available for three nights. I found another place for the five nights we had planned and asked for free cancellation since she couldn't host us for that whole period. She refused. I contacted the check24 hotline, and they spoke with her directly. She then told me we could stay for the booked period. When I called her again, of course it was still limited to three nights.

I booked a two-bedroom holiday apartment for two people in July 2023, but something went wrong and the confirmation showed only one person. I tried writing to the landlord and got no response. The phone call was unfriendly. We agreed on an extra payment, then arrived on time, but still weren't allowed into the apartment we'd paid for, only the hallway. Eventually we were turned away. The landlord canceled the booking, claiming we weren't there. I've filed a police report and hope to recover the over €1,000. Every star is too many.

We needed somewhere to stay at very short notice, and I made the huge mistake of not checking the reviews first. The landlady was incredibly unfriendly on the phone. I'd given 6:00 PM as our arrival time and was told to call half an hour beforehand. I called at 5:30 PM and got no answer. At 6:00 PM, from the front door, I tried several times before she picked up. She was shopping in Rostock city center and said it could take a while. She said I could have called. I was heavily pregnant, with a small tired child and luggage. After several false promises, she finally arrived at 7:30 PM (!!) and let us in. The apartment didn't match the listing or photos at all, it was a completely different one, with no balcony. It smelled awful and was dirty and run down. Crooked pictures hung on the walls, the shower barely trickled, there was an exposed electrical wire sticking out of the wall next to the crib, and my son enthusiastically pulled a handful of moldy grapes from the lampshade. The decor was creepy. Torn bedding, broken lamps, and mattresses that stank made the place even more uninviting. We were charged a so called tourist tax in cash, without a receipt or visitor's card. The landlady is apparently notorious for this. We were so exhausted from the long journey that we couldn't bring ourselves to leave, and spent the night in that creepy hovel. Complaining to booking.com was useless. I only got emails that looked copied from templates, presumably from poorly paid employees abroad. A clear case of fraud.

We were meant to check in at 3:00 PM, but the woman didn't show up until 4:30 PM. The neighbors said this was normal, and everyone else was already waiting outside. We had no phone number for her. We booked a two-bedroom apartment with a balcony for six people, but got a bedroom without a balcony. She said she hadn't noticed us! There was no receipt or tourist card for the tourist tax, which is a matter for the tax authorities. The glasses needed dusting, and two beds had to be separated, but it was impossible without strong people. Booking.com needs to remove these listings. This is fraud!
