Hotel-Events Adlerpalast

The food was okay, but there weren’t enough staff to look after 70 people. We’d been invited to a party, and the whole place seemed neglected. The toilet was awful 🤢. When we tried to leave, we found the parking lot blocked off. We were told it was reserved for hotel staff, even though we’d been directed to park there.

The room was warm, and the bedding looked good. The mattress was still in decent shape and the bed didn’t creak. But the place has an odd smell and some pretty creepy decor. It feels like the hotel had its best days decades ago, and those days are clearly over. I’d be wary of arriving alone as a woman. There was no staff around when I arrived, and the side entrance had barely any lighting. It was Wednesday at 5 p.m., already dark, and the route around there was winding. It might do if you need a room at short notice and don’t mind those things.

Two weeks before I was due to arrive, after I’d booked and paid upfront, I got a message saying my booking had been cancelled for free and all costs would be covered. It thanked me for my understanding and hoped to welcome me back, though I hadn’t cancelled anything. The message was generic and unsigned. At first I wondered if it was phishing, so I checked the email address and then asked what was happening. The reply was arrogant: all the rooms were booked, so they couldn’t offer me one anymore. It ended with two “Sincerely” sign-offs and “Sent from my iPhone.” It looks like amateurs are handling this, giving away rooms that have already been paid for. I can’t comment on the room or location, but after reading the other reviews, maybe I dodged a bullet. I’m curious whether I’ll get my money back, and when.

I’ll never go back to this dump. I had a night shift that evening and needed to sleep, but getting in was already a struggle. Nobody was at reception, and it took 45 minutes and several calls to a mobile number before someone showed up. The room was noisy and bright: the windows blocked no sound, and the curtains let in all the light. The bathroom had an extremely musty smell. Then on Saturday they started drilling into the building’s facade, and the drill bit suddenly came through into my room. By far the worst “hotel” I’ve stayed in.
