Ibis Berlin City Nord Hotel

The price is the only real advantage. This was my third stay, and although I've tried to overlook the flaws, the hotel and its furnishings are old. Door frames and furniture have scuff marks, and the colors might have been modern in the 1980s but aren't anymore. The rooms weren't heated properly, and adjusting the heating control made no difference. When I left, the employee was a bit surly and had already emailed me my bill before I'd checked out. Otherwise, practically nothing to recommend it.

The room was clean, though furnished cheaply and basically, and the parking lot was completely full. I had trouble understanding the reception staff's English.

I had to stay here to be near family, and I wouldn't have chosen it otherwise because of the room and bathroom. The staff were super friendly and nice, going above and beyond, and breakfast was delicious with loads of choices. But the room had no air conditioning or ventilation. They gave me a little fan, but it was still really hot and stuffy. There were lots of bees around the hotel, so whenever we opened a window, bees flew in. The bathroom was tiny, like one on a cruise ship, and the toilet leaked whenever we showered. The overall cleanliness could have been much better. When I raised issues, the response was basically, “Well, this is a 2 star hotel, so...” I'm not sure how to rate it.

The location is nice, close to the metro, but the hotel is very old and the rooms are small. The main problem was the service, which was very, very bad. The guy at reception was rude, didn't know English, which I found absurd, and kind of yelled at us.
