Steinbach-Hotel

The pool and wellness centre were a real bonus, and the hotel is well placed for local walks and a short stroll into Ruhpolding. Stop by the tourist information centre for maps and routes. Our spacious room at the front was very clean, though we could hear the road; it didn't bother us too much. Everyone was welcoming and helpful. Breakfast had a good range, but the selection was the same every day. Dinner was very nice, although as a vegetarian I only had one main course to choose from. We stayed at Steibach Hotel for seven nights and would recommend it. We hope to come back.

The gym classes were a nice surprise, and the pool was lovely too. At first the place seemed a little old-fashioned, but it was clean and pleasant. Staff were polite and very friendly. Breakfast was great, with everything you could want and something different each day.

The room was decent enough, and we enjoyed getting out on trips, but the meals were a real letdown. Breakfast buffet and the evening salad bar were the exceptions. My mother had emailed a week ahead and was told vegetarian food would be no problem, yet once there, the choices were poor. Almost every night she explained in German that we didn't eat meat or fish, but the staff still seemed unsure and brought us basic food. As a British vegetarian visiting the Bavarian Alps, I expected some food challenges, but we were disappointed by how this turned out.

I've stayed here six times and enjoyed every visit. It's a great hotel in a great location, with helpful, friendly staff and food and amenities that are above average.
