Seestrasse 12 gets five stars for its location. The view from the apartment on the hillside above the harbor is breathtaking, stretching from Belitz to the island of Greifswalder Oie. The harbor is a five-minute walk, and Netto and Rewe are about 5-10 minutes away on foot. The deductions are for the furnishings and the landlord, Rügenplus.de. There was no small welcome gesture, and the place felt purely commercial, without the hospitality we’ve experienced in other vacation rentals. On arrival, the key wasn’t in the right lock, and it took us 60 minutes to reach someone from the landlord by phone. The assigned underground parking space is reached through an extremely convoluted entrance. Outdoor parking costs extra. The notice in the room gave another impression of their “hospitality”: “...in urgent emergencies we can be reached...come and call out. There is a charge for travel.” So if the cabin catches fire or a water pipe bursts, you’ll be charged for travel. The amenities also left a lot to be desired. For a 10-day stay, there were only 1 1/2 rolls of toilet paper. Most of the bulbs were broken, leaving the bathroom like a darkroom. The kettle was badly scaled, and the water heater kept switching between scalding hot and freezing cold showers. Best not to lift the toilet seat, it was disgusting. There was no recycling bag or terrace deck chair, and the bed was just a sofa bed. After 5 days, I already had severe back pain, and the tiny 26-inch TV had real retro charm.
