Globana Airport Hotel

The staff were great throughout, polite and easy to approach, and you could tell they were focused on service. The room was clean and orderly, with a comfortable bed and large windows that let in lots of natural light. Breakfast was okay. The restaurant food tasted good overall. On one of my three visits I had the fish, and my stomach didn’t agree with it, but generally the food was nice.

Getting here from the motorway was easy, and there’s no need to drive around town searching. The hotel is 2-3 minutes from the Aral gas station and McDonald's, and has free parking. It’s one of the few hotels near big cities where your car doesn’t need an Umweltzone Plakette. We later got one from DEKRA anyway, so we wouldn’t have to find a hotel for a few hours next time. The bright colours and modern decor run throughout. Like at many European hotels, there was no fridge, electric kettle, or coffee maker. The room’s air conditioning has wall controls and is finally one that’s quiet enough to sleep with undisturbed. Breakfast was excellent, and you can eat outside on the terrace beside a small fountain and a quiet mini-robot lawnmower.

The room was very clean and spacious, with lots of cabinets, a large bathroom with a shower, and free WiFi that worked okay. I didn’t use the TV. For a one-person room, it was bigger than I expected, so I think I may have been given a larger room. Noise was manageable, though light sleepers may hear some planes. Keep in mind this is the new DHL cargo hub. There’s no night flight Limitation for cargo flights, according to a report I watched, which said that only applies to passenger flights. The AC was okay. I stayed two nights over the weekend for a nearby wedding and booked the Superior 1-Person Room through Expedia without problems. Check-in was easy: I showed my ID/Passport, filled in a document, and signed something. Check-in is after 15.00 hrs and checkout before 12.00 hrs. One elevator was out of order during my visit. On the first night, I had dinner with a larger group. The restaurant is quite small for a hotel of this size, but offers lots of dishes and drinks. The group of around 15 people thought all the different meals were good, including burgers, schnitzel, and pasta. Breakfast was disappointingly small and the room was very crowded. A paper in the elevator says cappuccino, latte, etc. cost extra, though normal coffee is included. I was satisfied with the stay and the clean room. When I stay less than 3 days, I usually put the sign outside so they don’t clean the room the next day, which is better for the environment. The room colour scheme is open to debate, and it doesn’t feel very modern anymore. There wasn’t a painting in the room itself either.

We often stop at Hotel Globana when our group travels from Amsterdam, so this was the first time the hotel left me disappointed. The environmental workers deserve a lot of praise, but I don't understand how that welcoming atmosphere can go with the arrogant behavior of the blonde girl at reception. It made me feel as though guests aren't respected or valued.
