The rooms are nice, and the reception area is lovely, though the hotel feels a little dated. Breakfast was disappointing for the price, with no fresh vegetables or extra muesli and seed choices, and only a limited selection of ham and cheese. It was also chaotic trying to figure out where we could sit.

The hotel is perfectly placed, just minutes from the cable car, with two excellent restaurants and a café-bakery nearby. Parking was easy. We had sunny weather and enjoyed sitting on the restaurant terrace. We didn’t eat dinner at the hotel, though it runs from 5 to 8 pm, and we saw plenty of half-board guests there. Our room was bright and spacious, on the first floor, with a terrace, table, two chairs, and a view of the surroundings. The bathroom had everything we needed, including a deep bathtub in the shower cabin, so showering was carefree. We booked bed and breakfast. The restaurant is a beautiful, large space in typical Bavarian style, and we had the same table each morning for our three-night stay. Breakfast was plentiful, with fresh pastries, cold cuts, cheese, fruit, muesli, jams, margarine, yogurt, and juice. The coffee came from a dispenser, unfortunately, but was served in cute little jugs. A hostess in traditional Bavarian dress greeted us with a smile and offered eggs prepared two ways. Everything tasted excellent. There was also a daily paper on the table with the weather and expected temperatures. We were there on Palm Sunday over Easter, and were welcomed with a box of six small boiled eggs in colorful wrappers. Before arriving, I got an email offering online check-in, which we completed. A few hours before we arrived, I received an SMS confirming it and explaining that we could pick up the guest card with local information and bonuses. Since we’d already sent scanned passports, at reception we just signed digitally and got our room key. The kind, smiling hostess and comfortable reception made a lovely first impression, along with the hotel’s appearance and location. We came back a few days ago from this wonderful hotel in a beautiful part of the Bavarian mountains. Our expectations were met and then exceeded. We’re thrilled and can’t wait to return to the same place. Thanks to the hosts for a very pleasant stay in such a heavenly area, and for an unforgettable Easter.

It felt like a lovely spot away from the busy centre, with pretty interiors and a nice outdoor area. A great base for starting hikes, too. The staff were so nice and treated us to fantastic food and drinks. We’re really happy with our stay. Danke!

The location is the only decent thing about this hotel. We only ate the included breakfast there and took every other meal elsewhere. I wouldn’t have wanted dinner or drinks in the bar or restaurant. We went to Gasthaus Schusterstein, Pizzera Lago & Hofbrauhaus Berchtesgaden, and can highly recommend all three. The Salt mine tour and Ramsau were also nice detours. I’d hoped for Gemulichkeit, warmth, good cheer, and a sense of belonging. That wasn’t part of our stay at Hotel Gasthof Bergheimat. The two older women who handle reception, oversee breakfast, and seem to be in charge came across as unhappy, rude, and arrogant. Their attitude and apparent contempt were a discredit to the Berchtesgaden region. I’m German American and have traveled to German every other year for more than 20 years. This was my worst experience with hoteliers. I’d been to Bavaria on every trip to Germany, but never to Berchtesgaden, and I was embarrassed that my longtime girlfriend and travel companion had to experience this as well. I must warn travelers to avoid this unfriendly place. Anywhere but here, run away!

The hotel is really pretty, and the scenery is great. It’s a 10-minute walk to the King's lake. The breakfast was great... in Germany 😂. I’d definitely love to come back.
