Gasthaus Zur Sonne

We got there just before the kitchen closed, but the freshly made food came quickly and was absolutely delicious. The service was excellent too. It's a lovely restaurant in the Ore Mountains, with lots of regional things to look at that really bring the area to life. We'll definitely return. Thanks so much! 🙂

The berry crumble with vanilla ice cream was absolutely delicious. I really recommend it. The server, who I assume was the owner, was very friendly, and I appreciated him checking whether we wanted another drink when ours ran out. The rustic decor suited the inn, and the food was okay, though I doubt that “almost everything” is homemade. The pasta with tomato sauce seemed to me to come from a jar, even though making it from scratch isn't hard. We'd arrived expecting more because of the many positive reviews, so the visit didn't quite live up to them. On the way home, I heard that one of my guests had found a hair in the crumble. If I'd known at the time, I'd have mentioned it at the restaurant, but that person is very shy and wouldn't have complained themselves. The ladies' restroom looks onto a skylight with a thick layer of moss. It's not hurting anyone, but it isn't a pretty sight. I think the restaurant needs a fresh approach, including spotless hygiene. Tradition and familiar ways are fine, but doing something the same way for years doesn't automatically make it better. Good luck with the improvements. I'll only come back if there have been real changes.

The innkeeper was helpful, and the place is decorated with lots of little regional touches. We also enjoyed the local Fiedler draft beer. If we hadn't just been passing through, we'd have eaten here again. Come for traditional German and Ore Mountains food, with friendly, genuine service.

We had a lovely family meal on New Year's Eve, thanks to our reservation. The food was fantastic, the decorations were lovely, and the service was warm and funny. A perfect evening at Schwarzenberg's oldest restaurant. Many thanks, and happy 2020!
