Hotel am Hauptbahnhof

We had a clean, quiet, well-kept room, with fresh bedding, a comfortable firm mattress, cosy lighting, and free towels and toiletries in the bathroom. The restaurant downstairs was very good and fairly priced, with a generous menu of local and international food. Hotel guests get a discount. We’d booked at the last minute for a concert in Schwerin. My girlfriend and I are Spanish professional musicians based in Denmark, and the woman who took our call was polite and helpful. Check-in was quick, and the staff pointed out things to do nearby, including a big festival about a 10-15 minute walk away that we hadn’t known about. The receptionist also took a few minutes to mark interesting places on a pocket map. After a quick checkout, I realized I’d left my very expensive headphones in the room. I called to ask if they could send them by priority post, with me paying the cost. They sent them and covered the €50 delivery themselves, despite my offer to pay. That was incredibly kind. Great staff, room, and food. I’m not sure when I’ll be back in town, but I know where I’d stay.

The room was comfortable and clean, and the station is only a two-minute walk away. What stood out most was the service. I had an online therapy appointment the morning after checkout, so I asked the staff for somewhere to sit. They let me use the restaurant room, and one of the women brought me hot tea. I really appreciated it. They also sell Bulgarian rose skincare, which I know from my trip to Sofia and really like. I bought quite a lot there.

The breakfast was good, the hotel is close to the train station, and the staff were nice to us. But they couldn’t speak English, even a little, and there was no information in English, which caused a lot of misunderstandings. You could hear every footstep and conversation from the hallway through the hotel doors, so bring earplugs. If you run a hotel, at least one person should be able to speak English, or there should be some information in English.

Everything was very clean, the location was perfect, and the food was good for a reasonable price. The staff were friendly too. We had a fantastic stay and will be back.
