Timberjacks Siegen Motel

I’m reviewing only the food and drinks here. Maybe I chose the wrong dishes, but I didn’t like the broccoli and cauliflower starter, roasted and dipped in honey. The veggie burger was OK, and my Apfelschorle arrived without a straw. The food was wonderful the last time I came, but this time it wasn’t.

The chicken bites are no joke, and the food was good.

The place had good vibes, and the Oreo cake V recommended was delicious, even though I’m not a big chocolate fan. Customer service was amazing. I ordered a Barbacoa Burrito for a late lunch on Thursday afternoon, but honestly, I was a bit disappointed. It had too much rice, with no flavor or seasoning, and only bits of meat and avocado.

The restaurant was amazing, with seating for small tables and groups, a huge bar, a giant TV showing scenes of the American wild west, and a cocktail and drinks menu to match. The wild west decor, with bison, antlers, and other artefacts, runs throughout. It’s billed as a steak restaurant, and that’s what we ate, though there are loads of other choices too, including all sorts of meat, fajitas, and wings. The dessert menu is just as impressive, with traditional American options like cheesecakes and a fabulous range of ice creams. We were stuffed after dinner, then did it all again at breakfast. The menu is just as long, with a full breakfast rather than anything light like pastries, though you can get fruit, yogurt, and porridge. You pay for what you order, not a buffet or set menu. This is a motel with a difference. At first glance, it looks like a huge steak house, but behind it are 16 rooms in lodges nestled in the woods, modeled on American motels and finished to a much higher standard. Each room has a terrace or balcony with rocking chairs and a table. The theme feels like Montana or midwest lumberjacks, but everything is new, modern, and finished to a high standard. Think denim, antlers, and wild west animals in both the rooms and restaurant. We had a mixed experience with the stay and the food, so it’s hard to sum up in a single rating. The rooms are a decent size with a HUGE, probably super king, bed. The bathroom is absurdly big, with a double sink and a large walk-in shower, though there’s a lot of wasted space. It’s all modern conveniences, perhaps a bit too modern, with panel-controlled lighting and air conditioning. The air-conditioning instructions were in German and hard to figure out, so we didn’t get the temperature quite right, though we still slept well. The lighting is awkward too: either just mood lighting, too dim for reading, or full lighting. It needs an in-between setting. Our bathroom hadn’t been fully cleaned. The shift manager made the effort to come and discuss it with us, which we appreciated, and we were happy with the resolution. It made a good base for our one-night stop while traveling.
