Hotel am Prinzengarten

The trains nearby were the one drawback. DB trains still run on motors rather than electricity, so they can be a bit loud. On a warm night, you may hear them with the window open, though earplugs are provided. We’d still highly recommend this well-located hotel, especially if you arrive by train. We made a spontaneous decision at 8 pm to stay overnight in Sigmaringen and were lucky to find two single rooms, since there were no doubles available. The hotel manager greeted us personally and gave us a short introduction to the building’s history, even though it was late. The old train station has plenty of charm from the street, and the renovation inside preserves its late 19th-century feel. The wallpaper, paintings, lamps, and furniture are decorative without being overdone. Our rooms were small but cozy and comfortable. I especially liked the solid shampoo bar, a lovely-smelling alternative that creates almost no plastic waste. Breakfast was a treat, served in the room where the Prince of Hohenzollern once waited for his train.
