Great outlook, friendly service, and a reasonable price.

The family running this place is attentive and friendly, and the generous breakfast comes with seconds if you want them. You can pay extra to take some along for a hike. Dinner with half-board is filling, and there’s a vegetarian choice. The guest rooms are spacious, and it’s a handy stop for an afternoon drink. The setting on Kandel mountain is lovely, with fantastic views and a great position on the Two Valleys Trail, so it suits hikers especially well. It’s a charming, rustic guesthouse, though the art prints on nearly every bit of wall make things feel cluttered. Breakfast only gets going at 8:00 AM, and until then the main exit through the restaurant is locked. Wi-Fi barely works, and there are no smoke detectors in the rooms, just a few in the hallway, with no escape plans provided. They don’t take credit cards despite having a card terminal. I’d get Black Forest cherry cake somewhere else. The organization can be chaotic, but the family’s warmth goes a long way toward making up for that.

We booked half-board and enjoyed a tasty dinner. The hostess was very friendly, and there were only a few other guests around. It’s a peaceful, idyllic place for a weekend if you like nature and want to unwind. Finding it took us a little while since there’s no sign from the road. It’s across the road from the main parking lot. The price is fair, and the furnishings are what you’d expect at a mountain inn, so don’t come expecting luxury. I’d recommend it.

A beautiful view comes with this place, which sits above 1,000 meters and feels pleasantly cool in summer. There’s parking, and it’s a great base for hikers, with warm meals available in the evening. The breakfast buffet is excellent, and the owner is very accommodating with attentive staff. The rooms are clean and have washing facilities. Some have private bathrooms and some don’t, so you can choose what suits you. The value is good. One mattress felt a little too soft to me, but that’s just my preference.
