Haus am Weiher

The city is good, but the owners made this the worst experience. I had to call the local police at the end. The staff were very rude. Don’t waste your time or money, this place might as well be a prison. There are much better options, and I hope it closes soon so nobody else has the same experience.

I visited in mid-September 2016 and will definitely stay again. The landlady was exceptionally friendly and quickly wrote down a shop address, its opening hours, and even a phone number when I asked about shopping. My room and bathroom were clean, and the glass was spotless. Breakfast was plentiful, and although I arrived before it was due to start, she kindly showed me to my table.

We’ve seldom been treated so rudely. The room was unclean and the breakfast buffet was sparse. We were asked to pay before even seeing the room, and although card payment was advertised at the entrance, the owner refused it. We only found out when we arrived. Never again!

Our seven-night half-board stay was supposed to cost €339 as a special offer, but despite repeated inquiries we were told the hotel was always full. In the end, we paid €399 per person. There was no real deal, especially compared with more comfortable hotels along the Ahr River that we came across on our cycling tour, including places with a sauna. The rooms are tiny, and on the balcony your knees hit the railing because it’s so narrow. On Monday, the hotel’s day off, the promised half board was replaced with a packed lunch of bread, eggs, and apples. We paid for seven days of half board, so that was outrageous. The owner wouldn’t discuss reducing the overpriced rate. I don’t recommend it, there are better and cheaper offers online.
