Wolterdinger Hof Soltau

The only thing I liked was the setting on a quiet, leafy street. The stay itself was a mess. Since we were arriving late and reception only worked until 11 pm, they were meant to leave us a key. There wasn’t one, and after a couple of calls we were put in an “apartment” at “no extra charge.” I’m not sure what they’d charge extra for: it looked and smelled as if nobody had been there for months. It was dark, musty, moldy, and the bathroom had dozens of spiders. Plugs and switches looked badly fitted, so we wouldn’t let our 9-year-old touch them in case something happened. Cables hung from the ceiling, and the kitchen appliances weren’t secured. You could lift the counter or oven right up and take it away. There was even a see-through hole in the wall. I can imagine that being great when it snows in winter. The room seemed to break every health and safety rule. Breakfast was dismal, though edible. In the morning there was nobody available to complain to: reception didn’t open until 11, and the people at the buffet couldn’t sort anything out. Nobody has contacted us since our stay in June 2023, as of February 2024. I wouldn’t recommend it.

The breakfast buffet was great, and the room was perfectly fine for a night. It was a bit dated, but that didn’t bother us. We’d booked after a day at Heide Park and were nervous because of the bad reviews, but we’d stay here again if we returned to the park. We arrived at 10:30 pm and reception was open. We called the number there for check-in instructions. The woman on the phone spoke broken English, but she sent the directions by SMS, and we found the key and filled in some forms at reception. I suspect some of the negative reviews come from people booking the cheapest hotel around and expecting the Hilton.

The areas outside the rooms are in awful shape, and the rooms are completely covered in black mold. This place is a tourist trap, a corpse with fresh paint. Stay well away.

We won’t be coming back. The apartment was a mess, with cobwebs in every corner and bedding that made us itch. Staff ignored our messages unless payment was involved. They also kept entering the apartment while I was out, even though I’d asked several times for them not to because of past problems in other apartments. They said they were cleaning, but nothing was being cleaned. They were just moving bed frames between rooms, which made no sense. When I asked for CCTV footage of whoever damaged my vehicle, they didn’t reply. I have photos of the damage and of the vehicle that caused it. There was loud music from upstairs at night, too. I’d avoid the place, especially if that would bother you. Don’t waste your money. Go somewhere better, even if it costs more.
