Fine for just one or two nights, but I wouldn’t stay longer.

The room was clean, and we were happy with it during our four days at the Deichkrone in October. Breakfast, though, was another story. We got frozen bread put out on the table the evening we arrived, and the same bread kept coming all week, with no rolls for a change. The boiled eggs were already sitting there too. Once, the sausage platters were left out overnight instead of being kept in the fridge. When we mentioned it, the landlord turned very unfriendly. On the day we left, the sausage platter had been picked over, with only scraps remaining. It was the same limited selection every day anyway. No one came by when we checked out, so we went and had a really pleasant breakfast at a bakery.

We picked the right place for our little four-day break. The guesthouse is basic but clean, and the price felt fair. We got a warm welcome from the owner and little Lola 🐶. We wanted some peace and quiet, and these two slightly crazy city people 🙃 found exactly that. You can pay extra for breakfast, or do what we did and make your own on the Weser beach. Rooms with refrigerators are available too. Those four days were wonderful.

The owner was friendly and easy to talk to, and the rooms were clean. Still, the place is quite dated, with stained carpets and a bed that was rock hard. The stairs up to the first-floor rooms creaked and felt as if they might give way. For €59, the double room was just about worth it for one night if you can live with the condition of the building. The bottled beer they sold was past its date, December 2020. I suspect the pandemic played a part in the lack of renovations.

My wife had to clean the room before our first night. Dust bunnies were rolling around, and there were spiders and cobwebs on the walls and ceiling. The sink, shower, and toilet were filthy and smelled of urine. The whole guesthouse feels neglected and rundown. It’s a one-person operation, and you have to pay when you arrive. No wonder they insist on getting the money upfront. It may be the only accommodation in town, but that doesn’t make it top-notch. Once was enough for us. If you don’t believe me, book a night or two at Pension Deichkrone in Kleinensiel and see for yourself. It’ll be quite an adventure.
