The price was fair for what we got. It was fine for an overnight stay, but nothing special. The old beds were still comfortable enough, and we slept well. Breakfast at home is better, though. Everything expected for a four-star place was there, but only at the bare minimum and with minimum quality. The coffee was already sitting on the table in a canister, which you know isn't the best. There were no signs at the buffet saying what was what, so the cherry jam could turn out to be strawberry, or you'd have to taste things to find out. I once took what looked like meatballs, but they turned out to be cold, sour preserved ones.

Stadtoldendorf itself doesn't have much, so that's the one reason we'd hesitate to return. The hotel is well placed for trips to Hamelin, Einbeck, and Göttingen, and Kassel is worth the 90-minute drive each way. We used it as a base for a four-day tour of the area. The hotel has a pleasant, warm feel, with nice decor and friendly staff, some of whom speak English. Half board was great value, with buffet dinners that generally included soup, a choice of three mains, and one dessert. Breakfast had plenty to choose from as well. There's also a spacious wellness area on the top floor with a balcony.

The breakfast and dinner were very good, and the service was great too. I'd highly recommend it for hiking trips in the area!
