Gv Stehaus Kaltenbach

I loved the quiet, semi-remote setting of Gästehaus Kaltenbach, with the village center and castle ruins still close by. The ruins are about 10-15 minutes away and well worth seeing, though I’m biased because they mean a lot to me. Staufen itself has shops, restaurants, a church, and other things to do, and the area is known for wine. I tried two local wines and liked them; I’ll review those separately. The guesthouse also gave me a free transport pass for local trips, the Black Forest, or Basel (Switzerland). Getting there from the bus stop means walking uphill. With only a backpack, I took 20-30 minutes at an easy pace, and Ubers are available. The neighborhood is residential and peaceful. It gets quite dark near the guesthouse at night, but I felt safe and enjoyed the contrast with the city. My room was comfortable, with a good bed and pillows, plenty of closet space, a spacious bathroom, and a shower but no tub in my room. It was well ventilated, easy to heat, and had both bright and softer lighting. The grounds and views were lovely, and everything was clean. The price and service added to the appeal. Breakfast was just right for me: simple, with nothing missing. Rufi, the lovely woman looking after us, made eggs to order and remembered what I liked from earlier mornings. The locally made fruit preserves were so good I wanted to drink them, and fresh local bread went beautifully with them. Just be mindful of the time, breakfast ends at 10 or 10:30am, so arrive with enough time to eat. Madam Gabby was a pleasure to talk with and struck me as a sharp businesswoman. I was glad we got to chat. 🫶🏽👍🏽✨ 10/10 recommend.
