The restaurant alone is worth a visit. It’s family run and serves modern versions of traditional Franconian dishes, made with fresh local ingredients. They even keep local freshwater trout in their own pool, taking one out when you order. Honestly, some of the best food we’ve had in Germany, and I’d come back to stay, especially with such a nice town nearby. The crosses over each room door caught me off guard, but there wasn’t any odd religious atmosphere. The owners and staff were friendly and helpful. It’s an excellent hotel.

We were treated like owners every time, as if we were the Rockefellers. The service and atmosphere, in the garden or inside, felt like a time when guests were really looked after. I can’t remember a better meal in Germany. It’s a must stop for anyone after a fantastic dinner, outstanding service, and a glimpse of a fading culture you only find in a few places. Easily the classiest place for 50 miles in any direction, maybe farther. Great for a stay, a meal, or just coffee.

We were eight women staying overnight, and the rooms were clean and we were happy with the breakfast and the peace and quiet. The owner was very helpful and friendly. The regional dinner dishes could use some improvement, though, and the service felt overly friendly. Being called “ladies” all evening didn’t feel appropriate. On both evenings, the main dining room shut sometime between 10:00 and 10:30 p.m. We were sent to a seating area meant for four, despite there being eight of us. They still served us drinks, but the restrooms were locked. It seems great for couples with children, but less suited to groups who want to sit together for a long time.
