Der Zauberlehrling

We went to the restaurant for my birthday, and most of the tasting dishes were very good. The food was pretty decent overall, and I thought the price was worth it. The staff seemed to be repeating a script they'd memorized. If they forgot a word or we asked something, they seemed thrown off. Then, when we asked for the bill, the waitress's first question was whether we had a gift certificate. I felt she assumed we couldn't afford dinner because we were younger than the other guests, since she didn't ask them. It left a bad aftertaste after a very expensive meal.

The atmosphere was nice, with very few tables, and the food was pretty decent. The service team tried hard. But the wine should have been decanted before it was served, and that was a total letdown. I've had better elsewhere, so I won't be back.

The restaurant is worth the price. I've been to plenty of Michelin starred places, and this one deserves its place among them. The effort in each dish comes through, and the portions are reasonable for that work. The wagyu item could have been better, though. I don't know about the hotel, but if you're visiting and want good food, this restaurant is worth a stop. Eat here and you get a slice of sophistication.

Every dish was stunning to look at and absolutely delicious, which all four of us couldn't get over. We've been lucky enough to eat at places like Alinea in Chicago and the French Laundry in Napa, and have had incredible meals over the years, but this was the first time both the beauty and taste of every dish were so striking. Everything clicked. The chef is incredibly talented, and the wait staff were fantastic when we needed English translation. We knew the restaurant had great reviews, but only found out it had won a Michelin star in 2023 as we were getting ready to arrive. We chose the eight-course meal, which lasted about 4 and 1/2 hours, and enjoyed every second. It was a wonderful experience. Thank you to Der Zauberlehrling, well done!
