Landhaus Massener Heide

We found this lovely restaurant through the voucher book and have been greeted and served warmly each time. The goose dinner was delicious and very reasonably priced, and an earlier dinner there was very good too. We’d be happy to come back. Anyone who hasn’t heard of it should give it a try. There are little horse heads in the decor all around the room, so this is a place for horse lovers. The staff are very friendly, and the food is upscale and prepared really well. I highly recommend trying it.

The breakfast costs €8.50, which feels too high for three kinds of packaged sausage, two kinds of cheese, and reheated frozen rolls. For that price I’d expect at least ham and salami, or maybe scrambled eggs. The bedside lamp was missing and, despite a promise, was never brought. The hotel is tastefully furnished and stylish, and its rural location is quiet, but the service left something to be desired.

The staff are very friendly, but one person can easily be overwhelmed by a large station in the spacious restaurant. Food quality has steadily gone downhill, and our visit on July 14, 2016, will be our last. The portions are huge, but there’s no creativity, unlike before. They seem to be cutting costs on more than just staffing. Cheap ingredients are sold at high prices: iceberg lettuce, heavy dressing that didn’t taste homemade, and undercooked frozen vegetables. Seasonal dishes seem to be missing, apart from asparagus and chanterelles. It’s a real shame, since we used to enjoy coming here often. It used to be better.
