Gästehaus Attenhauser

I booked this by mistake, thinking it was a hotel, but that was okay. The check-in and check-out times are pretty restrictive, so my road trip had less flexibility than I’d hoped. Might suit a longer stay better. There was a strange smell in the room, especially in the bathroom, which needs checking. I spent the night battling mosquitoes…

Breakfast was lovely, everything fresh, and the scrambled eggs were cooked just right. Monika & Nikolaus were helpful before and throughout my two-night stay during the Passionsspiele Festival at the beginning of June. They arranged a free local bus pass, so I could leave my car with them the whole time. My ground-floor room had a balcony facing the hills, and I’d have liked to sit outside and read in the unexpected sunshine longer, but I was short on time. This was my third Festival visit, and I don’t think I’ll return for it again, though I’d certainly try to stay with them both if I’m nearby.

The owner and his wife were so accommodating. When our train was cancelled on the way down and we had to take a bus, he drove us into town so we wouldn’t miss the Passion Play. He also gave us useful advice on getting into the performance and making our way back that evening. The hotel was cozy, our room clean, and breakfast wonderful. It’s in lovely Unterammergau, just three minutes from Oberammergau, with a train station about a 10-minute walk away connecting to Murnau and Oberammergau. We had a fantastic stay after booking as part of an arrangement to see the Passion Play, and would highly recommend this beautiful hotel in a quaint Bavarian town.

Friendly service, and the rooms were clean and comfortable. Good value for a stay.
