Hotel Bellavista

The host was welcoming and full of energy, and the rooms were clean with a nice breakfast. You really do get a lovely river view from here. Still, the place feels tired, with cracked walls and what looks like an abandoned garden, especially considering how expensive it is. I got the impression most hotels in the region are like that, though.

The room looked out over both the Rhine and Marksburg Castle, and there’s free parking for guests. It’s family run, modest, and clean, with really helpful staff. Just know nobody is at reception overnight because they go home. Ask if you need shampoo, though there is a hair dryer. The train tracks are very close, but I didn’t hear any trains from 11pm to 7am. Nothing fancy, but it’s a good option if you’re on this side of the Rhine.

We stopped for one night while hiking the Rheinsteig, and everything worked out perfectly. The staff were very kind, breakfast was great, and the interior was tasteful. We also had a great view.

The room was basic but fine for the price, and the WiFi worked well. We had a little balcony with chairs and a good view of the river. The hotel restaurant was good, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Just across the road are the town and the route up to the castle, which makes for a very good walk. River tour boats stop nearby, and there’s a really nice beergarten by the river too. The town is cute, with restaurants, a tea room that closes at 5pm, and an antique market on some days. The tourist offices have lots of information, including a town walk. Supermarkets are close by. A very good choice for a weekend.
