Historischer Gasthof Kaisermühle

I've stayed in most of the hotel restaurants around the Viersen area during my weekly work trips, and this is easily the most homely and relaxing. The food is Italian style, simple, tasty homemade comfort food, and normally priced. It's also a great deal. The old building has its quirks: tighter spaces, wooden beams, low ceilings, and narrow stairwells. As a listed building, I can imagine there are limits on how much the owners can modernize it. If you want sharp new edges, modern fittings, and 50-inch TVs, this probably isn't for you. But it's clean, comfortable, historic, relaxing, and authentic. The owners show they care with little thoughtful touches, like a fan, a good coffee machine, and even guest toothbrushes in the room. On a warm summer evening, sitting outside under the trees and listening to and watching the water mill turn is a perfect way to end the day. The wood-beamed restaurant is just as nice on a cold evening. If I lived nearby, this would definitely be my local, and it's my favorite hotel restaurant on my weekly business trips.
