Pension SXF

The staff were amazing, helpful, and well-meaning, and there’s free parking. The rooms are cheap but clean, with basic equipment and private bathrooms. There’s a basic kitchen too, though it could use some cleaning. It may not be the prettiest place, but it’s a great deal for a one-night stay.

The location near the airport and rock-bottom price may make up for the drawbacks. In daylight, the neighbourhood feels respectable, safe, and secure, but arriving after dark was difficult and frankly frightening. There’s almost no outside lighting or signage, and the entrance is around the back. Communication could be much better, especially about the possibility that no staff will be there at check-in. Apparently you find the unit door unlocked with the key inside. The room itself was tiny but very clean and functional, with a bathtub, toilet, wash basin, wall-mounted cable TV, and even a small refrigerator. The weak, unreliable Wi-Fi was the exception. The odd semi-medieval wall decor made the place unsettling at first. If I’d seen the warrior skeletons and gargoyle on the roof, like Jason and the Argonauts, during my late-night arrival, I might have asked my rideshare driver to take me back to the airport.

Some people were shouting nearby late into the night, so it wasn’t a pleasant stay for me. The bedding looked worn and in such bad shape that I chose to sleep in my clothes. There wasn’t a coffee maker or even tea in the room.

I stayed at the pension SXF for just one night before my flight. The owner was really friendly and drove me to the airport, and even took me to a restaurant when I mentioned I hadn’t had dinner. Such a nice service! The rooms have TVs, and the bathroom is modern and really nice. I’d like to come back. (PS: Very cute kittys too.)
