Hotel Erbenhof, where you check in, had fantastic and really lovely staff. The location is good, with all the main sights within walking distance. The rooms are a decent size for the price, with a great bathroom and comfortable beds. The pillows were lumpy and pretty bad, though. The old building has no AC, but it was a comfortable temperature for us, and it wasn’t especially hot outside. The room was clean, if a bit musty, and there were several spiders. They got in very easily, so don’t open the windows at night. Cleaning was fine, though we arrived to find almost no toilet roll left, with just one spare. The check-in arrangement is a huge pain. If you arrive between 3pm and 8pm, you have to haul your bags to a hotel 7-10 minutes away. That hotel is on a cobbled street, so rolling big suitcases makes a lot of noise and gets people at the restaurants looking at you. Then you have to drag them all the way back to Alt Weimar, with everyone staring again. Apparently, after 8pm they just give you a key code. Why not make that the default and have people prepay instead of sending them on that walk? I’d recommend staying here if the check-in process were different.

The service was personal and friendly, and each course came with carefully chosen wine. We had a wonderful five-course menu with classy, delicious combinations. Worth every Euro. We’ll be back!

Tell them your arrival time in advance, since the desk may be unattended and the front door locked. There’s no elevator, and the heating switches off automatically at night. I had good Wi-Fi in both my room and the restaurant. It’s a small, pleasant hotel with friendly staff, a great breakfast, and a very good location. I’d stay again.
