Landhotel Possendorf

The owners are incredibly friendly and glad to share ideas for excursions. Breakfast is excellent, plentiful, and reasonably priced. It's a lovely little hotel, well placed for visits to Weimar, Jena, and Erfurt.

It's very quiet here, though the transport links aren't great, so I'd recommend arriving by car. Parking is very limited. The country hotel offers excellent value, with everything needed for an overnight stay plus extras such as a kettle. Nothing to complain about with the accommodations. I'll definitely book again!

The room itself was small but clean and adequate, with its own bathroom. We stayed in July during a very cold week, with night temperatures of 12-16 degrees Celsius, and the heating wasn't on, so the towels wouldn't dry. There was no wardrobe, just an open chest of drawers, and the coat rack was above the table, which wasn't useful for hanging things. Getting to our annex room meant crossing a small courtyard from the street. The path to it and the breakfast room wasn't lit. After about halfway along and two flights of stairs, a motion sensor with a very small range, max. 3 meters, turned the light on, but it went off again after about 10 seconds. Even my great-grandmother wasn't that frugal, especially for a tourist establishment. There wasn't a working streetlamp anywhere on the street or nearby, so it was pitch black at night. We had called the owner directly to book a double room for six nights, after finding the hotel on a booking website. He agreed, asked us not to book through the website, and said to book with him directly. We were due to arrive three days later, and he said he wouldn't be there until our arrival date, so I agreed. But he charged exactly the same price as the website. I lost the points and bonuses I'd have earned there, and still had to pay tourist tax on site, which would have been included in a website booking. In the end, I lost money in several ways. There was no hotel parking, just street spaces in front, and parking was difficult over the weekend. Breakfast had rolls, about half whole-grain, coffee or tea, cold cuts, cheese, boiled eggs, some raw ham, butter, jam, honey, muesli, and orange soda. We were satisfied, but it wasn't special. MDR played constantly in the breakfast room. The owner and housekeeper were rather down-to-earth, though there was nothing to complain about. He followed the no children, no dogs rule. The accommodation met our needs, but I can't recommend the hotel in good conscience.

The owner was super friendly, and the hotel is lovely. Rooms are functional and clean, with perfectly adequate amenities. We liked having a tasty breakfast with plenty of choices, though unfortunately the hotel restaurant is no longer open. It's a good base for day trips to Weimar or Bad Berka, about a 10-minute drive to either. I'd gladly come back and recommend it.
