The site is in a great spot and wasn't overcrowded. The grassy tent area was spacious, flat, and well mown, and the man at reception was very welcoming. The showers and toilets were really clean. I'd recommend it to cycle tourers. One more picnic bench would be useful!

We only stayed one night, arriving in the evening and heading off early the next morning, but were charged €570 for tent pitches and cars. The owner greeted us in a hostile, unfriendly way, which is not what you expect at a campsite. At that price, basic courtesy seemed not to be included. If you're looking for a peaceful, hassle-free holiday, I'd suggest finding another campsite.

We stayed on pitch 530, which worked perfectly for our large twin-axle, 8-foot-wide van. The pitch area was tidy and the grass was mown. Check-in took a little while, though the woman at reception was friendly and helpful. Bring at least 35 metres of electrical cable: the boxes are spread out, and ours had to cross a gravel road. Staff had no extension cable when I asked. The bar is a trailer-style setup, open from 5 to 9:30 pm, with simple food at reasonable prices. Service could be slow when it was busy. The site also has a couple of ping-pong tables, volleyball, and a play area, plus free passes for the swimming pool next door. We didn't use the pool, but it could be good for families. It was quiet after 10 pm. As Brits, we couldn't figure out where to drain the van's grey water, which seems to be a normal setup in Germany. The toilet block is modern, but it wasn't clean during our four days there. A paper dispenser stayed broken, there were flies on the floor, and the same mess remained there day after day. The showers were awkward too: one had a normal tap to set the temperature and turn off, while the others stopped as soon as you let go of the push button, making it hard to wash. Our pitch was opposite the safari tents, which look good. When we returned one day, we saw the cleaners lounging and chatting on the tent deck for about an hour before they started vacuuming. They didn't seem to have much cleaning equipment, which might explain the state of the toilets. I wouldn't be happy as a site owner if holidaymakers saw staff relaxing like that; it gives a poor impression. The washing machines and dryers work through an easy-to-use app, and the cost is invoiced at the end of the month. A wash was €5.

We had a great stay by the river. The toilet blocks and showers have been recently renovated and were very clean. The site isn't especially quiet, since it's close to a railway line, and there were lots of geese while we were there. Lowen Garten, a beer garden serving food, is about a 10-minute walk away.
