Mittenmang

The cakes got a good rating from all of us: gooseberry eggnog, raspberry yogurt meringue, and pear mole. After our bike ride, we sat outside in the October sun and ordered the cakes along with two lattes and a hot chocolate. The lattes came in slightly bigger cups, but the chocolate tasted less aromatic since it was made with water instead of real milk, so ask before ordering. It came to about €6.60 each for homemade cake and a hot drink. Service was quick, even though there weren't many customers, and the restrooms were very clean. The café was open from 2:00 PM today. Families with little kids can use the playground behind it, and at the time we visited, horses were grazing in the paddock to the right of the driveway for older children to look at.

The email communication could've been better, but that was the only small downside. We had such a lovely week at the farm near Kappeln. The hosts were friendly and accommodating, and seemed able to make anything possible. The apartment was clean and spacious, the homemade cake was delicious, and the kids had plenty of freedom. They loved it, and so did we. We'll be back!

The owner was friendly, though we left expecting more. Ordering felt really hectic, and nobody mentioned that the cakes were from the day before. Our plate was a little pile of rubble, and the tablecloth still had stains from the previous day. There are nicer courtyard cafés around here.

The name has changed from Hofcafé Bocksrüde to Hofcafé Mitenmang, so don't let that throw you off. We found the cozy café on an idyllic farm near the Schlei inlet and Kappeln, with plenty to see and do for families. The owners are incredibly friendly, and their cakes and pastries are fantastic, made using time-honored traditions. Horseback riding is available too. Apartments are in high demand, so book early if you want to vacation here. If you're in the area, the cakes and pastries are well worth trying, and a visit is always worthwhile.
