The bed was comfortable, the room was spacious and very clean, and we liked being close to the restaurant, saunas, and pool. The saunas were clean and good, though their hours were limited and changed between weekdays and weekends. It would be nicer if they opened a little earlier, and if reception and the spa shared consistent information in both languages, as the photos show. The room also had a good Nespresso machine. We had a decent stay, especially for skiing, a comfortable bed, and a shared sauna. We were lucky to get snow on the first day. Service at both reception desks and the restaurant was poor. No one spoke English, which surprised us at a touristy 4 star hotel. Clear communication matters, and at other 4 star resorts we’ve visited, staff spoke more than one language. We even had to repeat requests like “still water.” On our first morning, we found the kettle completely burned inside. Reception didn’t understand “kettle” at first, then gave us one that didn’t work. We asked again and were promised a replacement, but it never came. Restaurant Fürst Richard didn’t meet our expectations. The Booking.com photos led us to expect something different, and the dishes and menu didn’t really look like those pictures. The à la carte menu was short, with simple pub food. There’s a bistro below where you can get pizza and drinks, but the pizzas are premade frozen ones heated in a large stainless steel oven. Breakfast was a simple buffet, more like a 2 / 3 star hotel. It was small and crowded, though Mondays were usually quiet. The food could have been replenished more often: the sign listed three cheeses, but only one was out. When we asked, staff brought two kinds, with the third still missing. The full cow’s milk, skimmed cow’s milk, oat milk, and almond milk all came in long-life 1 l cartons. There was no homemade bread, and the pumpernickel was dry and old at the edges. They could make omelettes and fried eggs to order, but it was best not to ask for sunny side up, sunny side down, or over medium, as they didn’t know what those meant. The kids’ club wasn’t available. It seemed to be in the same room as the sports facilities, though. The equipment included weights and a stationary bike, but no walking or rowing machine. It rained on the second day, so being able to exercise on a treadmill would have been nice. Wi-Fi was awful: we couldn’t connect reliably, and it kicked us off just minutes after we got in.

The spa area was very nice, and the hotel’s village tavern deserves a mention too. It was cozy, and the sole staff member there was friendly, capable, and quick. The staff elsewhere were friendly but clearly overwhelmed. We stayed in Comfort Apartment (568), which was tastefully and comfortably furnished, but cleaning was poor. There were crumbs across the floor, hair on the armchair and cushions, dirt inside the fridge, thick dust on some shelves and lamps, hair in the bathroom, and a dirty toilet seat. Reception sent someone right away after we reported it. Despite the obvious evidence, they kept insisting it couldn’t be like that because they had cleaned it themselves. They vacuumed again and cleaned the toilet seat, but left the bathroom hair and dusty surfaces. Noise was another problem. A family apartment was above us, and we heard every footstep, chair scraping, door closing, and even “we’re playing ball with the dog.” The children were awake and, understandably, found ways to keep busy in the apartment, so sleeping before 11 pm or past 7 am was out of the question. In winter, reaching the front door meant going down a few steps, and it was an adventure because neither the path nor the steps had been gritted. They were incredibly slippery. The restaurant had hardly any à la carte choices, so you practically had to take the buffet at €38. The spa wasn’t very peaceful either. Children used it to warm up between swims, then went into the saunas in wet swimsuits without towels. They left drinking cups around, left sauna doors open, and played in the relaxation area.

The booking was quick and easy, and we got very friendly advice beforehand. We were more than satisfied with the hotel. Our room felt modern and welcoming, while the spa, restaurant, and breakfast all went beyond what we expected. Highly recommended!

For nearly €270 a night including breakfast, I expected a lot more from the Dorint Hotel. The pillows on the bed practically put your head on the second floor, and there wasn’t even a bottle of water or another drink as a welcome gesture. Towels for the “wellness area,” with its two 70-degree saunas, cost another €11, and parking was €9 per night. I know that isn’t a huge sum, but at almost €270 for one night I’d expect those things to be included. We went skiing in Winterberg, but that was definitely our last stay at the Dorint.

My son and I stayed there from February 25th to 26th, 2026. The reception team were friendly, genuine, and attentive, and made the whole stay pleasant and completely stress-free. A heartfelt thank you to them.
