The only drawback was that the front desk help desk isn’t available 24/7. Otherwise, Tagungszentrum Schmerlenbach is a fantastic place for conferences, events, and personal retreats, with modern facilities in a serene, picturesque setting. The attentive staff help everything run smoothly, and the food is excellent, with delicious choices for different dietary needs.

The beds were really good, and the rooms were simple and clean, as you’d expect in a former monastery. The kitchen staff were very friendly. We stayed with a group for two days, but the rest was quite disappointing. Our group needed some flexibility around morning and afternoon breaks, but that wasn’t possible. We had to book cake and everything else separately, even though we wanted to avoid sugar and couldn’t stick to the fixed times. If we were even a little late, the coffee machine was switched off and the food was gone, but we still had to pay the rather expensive daily rate. There was no way to discuss this with the hotel beforehand, and booking was mandatory. I ended up paying almost €60 for coffee breaks we couldn’t use. A good service would have been to offer everything without time limits. Reception was inflexible too. A checkout queue cost us an hour in the morning, and we weren’t allowed to make up that time later. I paid €418 for two days and nights, about what you’d pay for a stay in a very high-quality hotel, yet flexibility and a service-oriented mindset were completely lacking. At that price, I would also have had to pay extra for coffee or tea at lunchtime. They simply turned off the machine. Very disappointing. As a trainer and experienced seminar leader, I definitely won’t book this venue for my groups.
